Silver and Gold, a poem

Silver and Gold

Silver the bole of the slender birch tree

In autumnal dress gleaming gold

Shimmering leaves that the breezes twist free

Tossed down to the ground in the cold

In autumnal dress brightly gleaming like gold

By the silver trunk of the tree

Golden the sun as the breezes enfold

The last leaves which dance merrily

The sun lights the silver trunk of the tree

And leaves there in numbers untold

Some still on branches, some strewed o’er the lea

A beauty more precious than gold.

The sun shines on leaves in numbers untold

Shimmering leaves blowing free

Which shine with a beauty more precious than gold

As silver the bole of the tree.
