One
bright, sunny morning, Harvey the black Labrador went for a walk with his
owner.
They
went into an orchard, which was one of Harvey’s favourite walks. There were
some very good smells and lots of interesting places.
In the
middle of the orchard was a stream and this stream ran through a small wood.
Harvey loved to play in this wood.
On this
particular morning, Harvey found a very large hole in the ground. It smelled
rather odd and was very dark inside.
Harvey
trod forward carefully until his front paws were at the very edge. He stretched
his nose towards the hole and sniffed. He could smell dead leaves and mould.
Just
then, a rabbit jumped out of a nearby bush. It squeaked when it saw Harvey and
twisted sideways before scampering away.
Harvey
loved to chase rabbits! As he turned sharply to follow, the soft earth at the
edge of the deep hole gave way beneath his paws.
Before
he knew what was happening, Harvey was tumbling head over heels down the hole...
And if you want to know what happened to Harvey you will have to buy the book ... links below

Heather, like me, writes mostly Regency Romance, and has brought out the first of two volumes about the horse in history which is one of the dozen research books I keep on my always in use shelf. Find her here: https://regencywriter-hking.blogspot.com/
Thank you for this. I hadn't come across your friend's books. Have had a quick look at her blog & will definitely be delving deeper & trying her books. Harvey looks great, love the cover. Regards Kim
ReplyDeletethanks, I like her writing! and she writes an excellent and clear academic guide as well
DeleteI love your pictures. They complement the story very well.
ReplyDeleteAnd I owe Harvey an apology as he didn’t fall into the hole in a search for food, but as a consequence of a perfectly reasonable desire to chase a rabbit. Sorry!
thank you: Heather had gathered some royalty free pics and was not satisfied, so I found myself volunteering to paint for the text ... she's writing a sequel about Harvey and the big red bus, and we are both agreed this has to be a Routemaster bus, with the open back and conductor, and the driver in his little cabicle next to the engine ...
Deletehaha well Labradors ...
Definitely a Routemaster. A ‘proper’ bus and possibilities for dogs to go for a ride too .....
Deleteyou probably have the same pictures in your head that I do ....
