Poem: day of the dead

The religious side of All Hallows

Day of the Dead

Ring out the bells and slowly toll
The tailors nine that make a man
Celebrate the immortal soul
He has seen his allotted span

Between the worlds the walls are thin
The dead are close to us this day
Candles may light their way within
To guide them so they will not stray

Candle burn and sonorous bell
Sound the sombre song of death
Propitiate the souls and tell
That we recall when they drew breath

Tell the souls and toll the note
The Passing Bell swings in the tower
Now let the Stedman sequence rote
Sing glory for the final hour.
